Welcome to The Long Island Bicycle Co-Op
At the Long Island Bicycle Co-Op, we are more than a bike shop – we are a community-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to making Long Island a safer, healthier, and more connected place through cycling. Whether you are just starting out or you’re an experienced cyclist, our doors are open to everyone.
Come visit us at 8 Flower Fields, Unit 18 in St. James! We are open Wednesdays and Thursdays 6-8pm and Saturdays 11-2pm.
We need your help!
The Long Island Bicycle Coop has lost its private funding and we are in danger of closing our doors at the St. James, Suffolk County location. We have had to cut our in house youth “young mechanics” program as well as our programs in the public schools. We are reaching out to the public for donations to help us sustain.
LIBC accepts donated bicycles, our volunteers refurbish them, and we give them away for free to the public. We gave away approximately 2000 bicycles last year. Our mission by giving away bicycles is to help needy families, encourage a healthy lifestyle and to keep used bicycles out of landfills. We need your help to continue to fulfill our mission.
Our Mission
We believe that cycling empowers communities, fosters mobility, and strengthens social and environmental well-being. Through education, repairs, and equitable access, we strive to create a healthier, more connected Long Island—one rider at a time.

Volunteers are at the heart of The Long Island Bicycle Co-Op. By sharing your time and talents, you become part of a passionate community dedicated to safer cycling, healthier neighborhoods, and sustainable living. Whether you’re an experienced mechanic or someone who simply loves bikes and wants to help, we have opportunities that fit every interest and schedule.
Request A Bike
Everyone deserves access to safe, reliable transportation. Through our bike giveaway program, we offer refurbished bicycles to community members in need—free of charge. Requests are limited to one bicycle per person. When it’s time to pick up your bike in person, you’ll simply complete a short waiver form.
Together, let’s keep Long Island pedaling forward!
